about

The third single from You Are Wolf's upcoming album, hare // hunter // moth // ghost (out November 3rd 2023), Blue Men is a collaboration with eminent nature writer Robert Macfarlane.

Given the theme of transformation, Robert wrote some original lyrics for You Are Wolf about the Blue Men of the Minch. These folkloric ‘storm-kelpies’ lurk in the waters between the Outer Hebrides and mainland Scotland, looking for boats to sink; in Rob’s lyric, which he called ‘a short scene in an opera’, they sing to the sailors and entice them under the sea.

As an exclusive B-side for Bandcamp buyers (and as with the other two singles, Reynardine and winter solstice), Kerry has written, read and recorded a brand new short story with music. 'The Coffin Path' is a very dark tale of three sisters tasked with carrying their father's coffin over the North York Moors. It was written around the old Yorkshire traditional song 'A Lyke Wake Dirge', which Kerry arranged in a new version for Anna Snow, Sarah Dacey and themselves to sing.
