about

In Greek mythology, nymphs or naiads are female spirits seen in rivers, fountains, streams and brooks. Adolescent boys and girls of ancient Greece would throw a lock of their hair into the river, so that the resident naiad would bless them as they grew into adulthood. Dragonflies spend the longest part of their lives in fresh water, in an aquatic larval stage, when they are known as nymphs or naiads.

With a field recording made by Eklavya Prasad for the charity International Rivers, in which women of Chaidha Village in Bihar, India, sing about the interaction between their two local rivers, the Ganges and the Koshika.

Chaidha has a huge problem of arsenic contamination in groundwater. International Rivers (internationalrivers.org) works to protect rivers and the rights of the communities that depend on them.
